dim sum, London Style

For our last lunch in London, Clara's aunt took us to dim sum in Chinatown. It surprised me that London even had a Chinatown, but that's just because I never really thought to put the pieces together. I mean, the UK held Hong Kong as a territory until 1997, it would only make sense that there would be some crossing of cultures. It was some of the best Chinese food I have ever had. It was also really cool to hear my friend speak Cantonese to her aunt! I even got a little bit of a history lesson about the China/UK connection. I now really want to plan a trip to Hong Kong!!

After lunch, Clara and I collected our luggage and headed to the tube to go to Heathrow. We got on with plenty of time and about 20 minutes into our journey, the train stopped. We were told that we would be moving shortly, then after about 15 minutes they made us get off. This is with an hour and 15 minutes until departure time for our international flight!

We were told to take a bus to another bus and that the whole journey would take about 35 minutes. We'd make it to the airport, just barely on time. Luckily when we got to the bus station another girl in the same prediciment asked if we wanted to split a taxi to Heathrow. Twenty pounds later we were at the airport with 20 minutes to spare. I understand my mom was trying to save me money with her advice to take the tube, but I think after that debacle, I have learned the value of the Heathrow Express. Sure, it's more expensive, but the peace of mind is worth it, at least when trying to get somewhere on time!
