heirloom talk

Recently I have been really thinking about how my life is right now compared to how I thought it would be. You know, when you're young, you and your peers are all doing the same sorts of things at the same time. And as you get older, there are more and more choices, and different paths to take. Some people seek higher education, some join the workforce young, some people get married, some stay single, people have babies, some decided that they never want kids... Life becomes like a tree, with so many branches to choose from, none of them right, none of them wrong, each just different.

So I'm getting a little deep here because I realized that it's okay that my life is different from the preconceived notion that I had as a kid. I mean, I have plenty of time to take as many different paths as I would like! I had a great conversation to this effect with my friend, Andy. He's one of those people in my life that I can go a year or two without seeing, and when we get together, it's like no time has passed at all.

I noticed a really ring on his finger (right hand) and asked him about it. He had some solid silver coins, that had been passed down from his grandfather, turned into a ring, and a set of cuff links. He said that since his family didn't have very many heirlooms to pass down, that he would have some things made to become family heirlooms. But that's just the kind of thoughtful guy that Andy is!
