trend to try: dark red lips

Picnik collage

I tend to get into ruts when it comes to my personal style. I find its easy to just wear the same make up day in and day out, shop at one store (like my love affair last winter with the Gap) and dress as if I'm a mannequin in their store window, and keep my jewelry simple. However, then I find myself falling in LOVE other style bloggers interpretations of all the trends that I have seen in different magazines! Then I realized that I could make a little game out of it, since I already have a TON of magazine subscriptions!

I am going to find a trend that I don't usually follow and try it out for $10 or less by using things I already have or doing DIY projects to follow suit! I imagine that, like this post, most of the trends I try first will be hair and makeup related, as those tend to be free or cheap (especially when you have TONS of makeup just hanging out in a drawer in your bathroom from playing photo shoot with your friends). So here it is, my first Trend to Try post!

I usually stick with a very neutral lip colour (except this past spring when I was experimenting with coral lipstick - should I bring that back, BTW?) and choose to play up my eyes when I get really made up. But this trend kinda spoke to me since it seemed a little out of the box, and I happened to have a dark berry lipstick in my makeup drawer that made a great red shade when mixed with my coral one from sephora.

I wore it to work, but by lunch time it was gone. I'm thinking that I might want to give dark red another try for a night out on the town - what do you think?
