the negative

DSC_0019

I'm really struggling styling this skirt in new ways. Hence this outfit is pretty much the same as this one... it's the negative of it. I just love floaty, swingy, comfy skirts! My mom is actually going to try to make some skirts from this one.

So I had a really amazing staycation over the Memorial Day weekend, but I didn't do a great job of taking pictures of my outfits. I guess I was too busy enjoying myself. :) I also have a lot of catch up to do this week, so expect some extra posts!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Did you go or stay?

to the pool

DSC_0004

Sunday I relaxed, Reston Style and headed to the pool with Josh and Jenny. It's one of the things that kinda defines Reston. It's a place, not a town or city, just a place that is 17 square miles and has 15 swimming pools, 35 tennis courts, 2 golf courses, and 55 miles of walking trails. I like this explanation of Reston. So in the summer, when your a kid, you join the swim team and spend the summer days at the pool. When you're 15, you become a lifeguard and spend your days at the pool until about 21. Then you are a young professional and you spend your days at the pool.

Basically, Reston happens at the pool in the summer. I love going to the pool! I love going for actual workouts, going to sit in the sun, going to teach lessons, and going to just hang out with my friends. Needless to say, I have quite an extensive bathing suit collection. I'm still not sure how much I am going to post on here... but here's what I wore to the pool on Sunday!

be present

DSC_0055

I am super excited! Because I posted out of order, I have already shown off my new Jess LC necklace, but this was actually the first day that I got to wear it. I bought two of them with my birthday money, one for me and one for Jenny, because I really like the message "be present."

Jenny and I had just talked about how sometimes we struggle with thinking about where we need to go, what we need to do, and the horrible statement of "I'll be happy when..." This necklace, a grown up version of a best friends necklace, is to remind us both to be happy now, live in the present, and when it comes to our workouts, just be present and accounted for. I don't know about you, but some days I just don't want to do anything. I don't want to take my outfit pictures. I don't want to go to work. I don't want to do any of my training. Being present in my life means that even if I don't want to do something, I should just do it and be present in it. But even more importantly it gives me permission to move on from the stumbles of the past and be present in right now.

Apparently it is also something they say in yoga, but I like my interpretation! That's why I'm not going to apologize for not posting OR taking any new pictures yesterday and just move on and be present in today!

brights and blue

DSC_0041

My boss complimented me on my pink pants. It was kinda cool because I'm not sure he really notices what I wear. I mean, he knows I have a style blog and he also knows that before I had the blog I wore sweats most of the time to work (hence the need for a style blog). All he said was "nice pink pants." And it pretty much made my day.

I am not sure I was really thinking straight when I put this outfit together, but I liked wearing it. I mean, pink pants are super fun! And this top is so comfortable and SOFT - gotta love Gap for that! I think that sometimes I really over think my outfits. Maybe I need to have more days like this one where I just kinda let my closet dress me.

And more pink pants.

bike to work day

DSC_0001

I have been 'gearing up' for today for months! May is National Bike Month, and this week (16th-20th) is National Bike to Work Week, and today, May 20th, was the DC area Bike to Work Day! I got my butt out of bed at 5am and hit the road at 5:15am to head to work to get all the tee shirts and gear for the event. I was up at the Reston Town Center pavilion by 5:40am setting up to have more than 300 people stop at our pit stop

I figured that since I have been talking about biking to work and sorting tees, that I ought to share a little of the event as well! At least some pictures of me and my bike that I snapped at Lunch!

I truly feel that a white top and a cute jacket are necessary in every closet. I live a really casual life, so my number one go-to jacket is my denim one. (In the fall, my military jacket gets a lot of wear too! I even wore it with this skirt.) It's just great at accessorizing nearly any outfit! I love throwing it over dresses. I use it to dress down a skirt, like this. And it's great for keeping me warm in my air-conditioned office in the summer. Essentially, it's like a favorite pair of jeans.

I just love this skirt. It was $5 at Ross and a total impulse purchase. I'm not exactly sure that skirts with this wide elastic waist band are still in (or age appropriate now that I'm 29), but I'm not sure I care! I think it's super adorable and fun to wear!

You know how I just love puffy sleeves? Well, add ruffled skirts to that same list of things I will always want to wear! What's on your list of things you wanna wear, whether or not they are in style?
