things go on

DSC_0086

Today is my cousin Andi's birthday. (Happy birthday, Andi!) Unfortunately her birthday is being overshadowed by the loss of her father (my mother's brother), Mark Dillon O'Rourke. He passed away unexpectedly on Saturday. It's been kind of a sad time for my family, but Andi reminded me in a post on facebook that you can be sad, but you also have to remember the good times.

Here are some things that I remember about my Uncle Mark: I remember that when I was really little, he gave me my Mickey Mouse. I also remember that at a couple of family events at my grandfathers house, he was the one that played with me when I was the only kid, aside from my sister who was still a toddler and too young to play. I remember one time Uncle Mark called my mom, I must have been in 4th grade, and I was listening in on the phone giggling. Rather than get mad at me for listening in he asked me questions and was genuinely interested in my life. Then when I was in 10th grade and we were all in Tennessee for my other Uncle's funeral, he told me that any time I wanted to come and visit I was welcome. And that if I ever needed to run away from my parents, I could come to Chicago (though he said this joking, knowing that I wasn't the running away type). Little did he know, I was the "come and visit" type, and I planned my first solo trip just over a year later. And every day when I would post a link to this blog on Facebook, Uncle Mark would "like" it. I know it's kinda silly, but it was always really nice to see. And then there's one more thing, my nephew, even though he only met his great Uncle Mark once when he was 3, he knows that Uncle Mark liked the Geico Gecko. :)

grape crush

DSC_0031

That's actually my sisters favorite soda. When she was a kid, if you asked her what her favorite flavor was, she would say purple, but if you asked her her favorite colour, she'd say grape. I kinda feel like a grape in this outfit, both while wearing it and editing the pictures. On the plus, this is what I wore when I took those super cute pictures of James! Luckily this skirt has pockets for my wallet and keys, so that I could easily use my camera while walking.

I have been super bad about taking pictures recently, and I know I'm gonna run out of outfit posts soon! Hopefully the rain will let up enough today to get some pictures done! I'm also super excited about dinner tonight with Annie, Chirstie, and Kevin. It's not often that I go out on a week night, so this is a special treat.

...half Britney, circa 2005

DSC_0009

I know I said I was done with UGGs on my blog, but sometimes I just wanna be comfortable (I'm actually wearing some again today). This outfit is half "French" (you know, stripes and red lipstick) and half Britney, circa 2005 (the ripped light jeans and uggs). Sometimes I just want to wear super comfy clothes and not really bother with how I look in them, this was half one of those days. I mean, I tried. My hair is back in braids because after yoga (knowing that I would be swimming that night) I just rinsed my hair. So I guess I just half tried...

I did get to meet up with Jenny and Erin for a quick coffee breakfast before work. It was so nice having Erin in town! Currently she and I are trying to figure out what international race to run next year, since I didn't get into the London Marathon.

hot and cold

DSC_0076

Since it rained nearly every day in September, I have to say that October is happy change, even if it can't decide on a temperature. When I wore these layers on the 4th, it was pretty cold all day. I was going to write about how happy I am that I can finally wear layers again. But now the high today is going to be 80... So it's back to shorts and a shirt.

Lucky for me, it was perfect running weather yesterday in DC for the 27th annual Army Ten Miler. It's the 5th time that I have done this race, and yesterday I set a PR by 2 minutes and 15 seconds! I even had to stop twice to tie my right shoe. It was a great run, followed by some delicious chips and salsa at Rio Grande in Arlington. I'm just kinda bummed because I didn't take any pictures. I even had a really cute running skirt on. Oh well, I'll take the PR (1:23:35) over cute pictures any day. Well, any race day.

Guest Post on That's So Michelle!

Michelle was so nice to let me do a little "Reston Style in the Kitchen" post on her blog. Maybe it will recur on other food blogs, maybe I'll start cooking more than once a month and start my own... who knows! Pop on over to That's So Michelle and check out my party cookies! (and buzz her on foodbuzz)

Regular outfit posts will resume after the weekend! Have a great one!

apple season

DSC_0014

I know, I was supposed to give this shirt back to Annie, but she was out of town, so I thought I'd wear it again. Funny though, this is actually this outfit with the same, but different coloured cords and sweater. I love how you can wear basically the same thing, styled just a little differently, and it looks like a whole new outfit! I am finally getting together with Annie a week from today... so that means I'll probably try to wear all the stuff I borrowed from her again over the next week!

Speaking of weeks, they seem to by flying by! I have so much to do, and since the return of good television, so little time to do it. I know I should spend some time everyday after work working on my side hustles, but I'm just so tired! Coaching, working, running, and life stuff seem to have taken it out of me this fall. Fingers crossed that I learn to manage my time or win a million dollars so that I don't have to worry about a day job. ;)

and the baby came to visit

DSC_0005

I know, I should be more excited about seeing my best friend, but I have to say that life is kinda all about her baby, James! When he's around, it's hard not to be all happy and smiling. The conversation even turns to him. Whether its about his milestones or his bowel movements (yeah, yeah, poop comes up in conversation about babies), but it's kinda hard to get tired of "all things James!" I know that we always tell kids (and people) that the world doesn't revolve around them, but in this case, it kinda does. And it's awesome! (Erin, I still love you, but James is starting to tie with Rowan)

No baby pictures yet (here are some old ones to tide you over), but they are in the works for tomorrow at lunch time. I will be stretching my photography skills (and using some of these tips from Digital Photography School) by attempting mid-day, outdoor pictures. But lucky for me, there will be frozen yogurt to cheer me up if the pictures don't work out. :) Also new, I am experimenting with affiliate marketing and some ads on here. Please give me some feedback as to what you think. Thanks!

'I really love my...'

DSC_0006

JCrew navy shorts and NineWest boots... I know it looks like I wore these just days apart from one another, but that is only 1/2 true. I wore them on Thursday and again on Monday. So really, it's like a week apart, right? A lot of things have been happening in my life lately. (check out my Tumblr for details) But I think I am going to try to only write about the positive things on here. But it may also mean that there may be a lull in my posting for a while. Remember that episode of Friends where Chandler only wanted to wear sweat pants? Well, unless you want daily outfit shots of me in sweats... I'll leave it up to anyone who's reading to decide.Sweatpants pictures?
