it really *was* too cold for shorts

I wore this when I met Becca, Nick, and Annie for coffee a few weeks ago. Both Becca and Annie commented that my outfit was cute, but wasn't it a little too cold for shorts? It was; but the outfit was so cute that I didn't care and wore it for our coffee date anyway. I later changed into pants for lunch/this photoshoot/hitting balls at Woody's.

Don't worry, now that November is coming to an end, I don't have any more delusions about wearing shorts again in 2011... at least not in Northern Virginia! Lucky for me, on Saturday I'm headed to Grand Cayman for 5 days with my family to celebrate my dad's birthday!! What's even cooler? Michelle (of That's so Michelle fame) and her new fiancee, Nick, are on a cruise at the same time that will be docking in Grand Cayman while I am there. I am so excited! 80+ degree weather, the beach, fun family time, and getting to see friends on vacation - what could be better than that?

I actually wear this a lot

I love wearing this top and scarf together. In fact, it was one of the first photographed outfits from last year when I started Reston Style. In an attempt to post more regularly, I have decided to post all the outfits from October that got photographed but never posted. This is one of them! I wore this when I went to watch Sonia's son play soccer (seen here on my photography blog).

Not only am I posting for the second day in a row, I have another (lost outfit) post ready to go for tomorrow AND I took pictures today that I think I'll try to get up before the end of the week. busy and dark

Swim and dive season has started and I have found myself busier than ever! I'm have been working between 12-16 hour days 4 days a week since November started. Unfortunately with that, getting sick, the holidays, and less light after work, my blogging has taken a bit of a back seat. Here are some pictures from what I wore a few weeks ago, experimenting with taking photos in the darkness that is 5:15pm.

last friday night...

I barely had time to take pictures last Friday night. I mean, it gets dark so early now! I have been sick with a killer cold virus this week. It struck me mid Tuesday and has been getting worse since. I'm not going to go into details, but my nose is totally raw and I have gone though a bottle of cold medicine and a box and a half of tissues.

The good news, I didn't take any pictures while sick - so you won't have to witness the pathetic mess I am while sick. The bad news, my sense of smell is kinda messed up so I didn't realize that the hashbrowns I am cooking while writing this post started to burn. But I guess that's just bad news for me. :) (ps - did you know they make dehydrated hashbrowns!? You just rehydrate and cook, ah-may-zing!!)

Look Back: November 2010

What a difference a year makes! I started posting outfits on my tumblr a year ago. They were sporadic and I really didn't have a formula for blogging or even a process. My tumblr is still mostly just what pops in and out of my head, but it certainly launched this blog, as well as my photography blog (and business)! Here's a look back at what I wore this time last year!

the black and the blue

I was editing these photos and surfing facebook at the same time last night when I saw a post from a band that I'm friends with, The Chuck Shaffer Picture Show. Then their song Black and Blue got stuck in my head, hence the title of this post.

This is the only time I wore this dress that I borrowed from Annie before returning it. Then she actually wore it when we all went out on Saturday night. I was a super party pooper though! I was so tired from my swim team's service project, 9.75 mile long run, photographing the Nearly Naked Mile, and swimming at the Olympic Clinic with my kids, that I yawed the whole time that we were out! I feel like I totally let my friends down, cause they drove all the way out to Reston to hang out!!

it was definitely raining!

Yeah, I attempted it - a photoshoot in a down pour! What do you think? I am kinda impressed that I got two pictures to turn out (truth, I only shot three)!! A couple of months ago I was searching for some cool gifts for a photographer and found some reusable DSLR rain shields. I got a set as a gift and a set for myself, and I'm pretty happy with them! They're basically camera shaped clear plastic bags, but they work really well. It's probably a case of really just wanting them for myself and imposing my wants on another person... but isn't that part of gift giving? ;)

With Christmas just around the corner, my mind has actually been taking mental note of things that friends and family have been mentioning over the last month or so. I usually try to just pay attention to a random, off hand mention of a small want, and go from there. I guess it's thoughtfulness... or it could be that I'm just taking advantage of having a good memory. Oh, and I remember where I wore this - to an amazing dinner with three of my favorite people, Annie, Christie and Kevin!

it must have rained...

I swear, going through and writing posts about outfits that you wore almost a month ago is like being part of CSI or something! I actually tend to throw this outfit on pretty much any day that I know I'm not going to take pictures. (yes, I have just let you in on the secret to my life - I am a jeans and white tee shirt kind of girl.) I deduce from these pictures that it rained shortly before, or possibly still was raining lightly while I was taking them. Mostly I come to that conclusion because the ground is wet... but then there is the first picture in this post... It most definitely looks like I am being rained on.

I know, you're totally amazed by my powers of deduction, aren't you? ;)
