It looks like April 2012 is kinda a flop when it comes to regular posting. Not the case last year though! This time last year, I had just come home from my trip to England and Belgium, I was gearing up for Bike to Work day, and I had just gotten my BMW. This year I am gearing up for Bike to Work day again, getting ready to go down to Charlottesville for Foxfields, and paying $1800 for repairs on my BMW. It seems that the more things change, the more they stay the same! :)

I know it seems like a bummer to spend that much to repair a car, but it is just the cost of ownership. I was prepared for it... kind of. I mean, I knew that repairs would be expensive, but it hadn't sunk in just how expensive they would be. Good thing I have been monitoring my budget like a mad woman and really working to save money!

priorities

DSC_0023

My priorities are certainly not on blogging this month. I have been a slob, wearing mostly jeans and sweatshirts, as I work on selling some of my furniture and other things on craigslist and getting my house ready to be upgraded, repainted, and redecorated! I was even planning on having a yard sale over the weekend, but since it rained, I had to postpone.

I have tons of clothing, jewelry (costume/statement), and accessories that I would like to find a new home. I thought a yard sale might be the best way to do that, but maybe an online sale would be a good way to find my stuff a new home. I just don't know how to ship things for cheap. Anyone have any ideas on how I could sell things for a great deal and keep the shipping costs to a minimum?

It's all part of my spring renewal! :)

I should...

DSC_0010

I should probably post more regularly. I know it. But I have just been running around like a chicken with my head cut off for the last couple of weeks. Well, maybe it's more like a woman on a mission, and unfortunately that mission hasn't included dressing well, photographing outfits, or blogging. I have been work, work, working, and trying to be a good friend by fitting my friends into all my other spare time.

Not to mention getting my house ready for a complete change. Not sure if I mentioned it, but my long time roommate moved out at the beginning of the month. So I am getting ready to take on a new roommate for the summer and another one in the fall. It's scary that so much is changing, but it's exciting that my former roommate is getting such great opportunities coming her way. It's certainly the result of a lot of hard work that she put in!

Let that be a lesson to all of us, good things don't come to those who wait, but to those who work their butts off and as time passes, hard work is rewarded!

jack of all trades

DSC_0005

I have a lot of hidden talents. One of which is doing hair. I have no formal training, other than working as a receptionist at a salon when I was 19 and pitching in where I could. Then my bestie, Erin, let me play with her hair colour for years, and it evolved to a point where I was doing about 8 peoples hair a month. I enjoyed it, but it took a lot of time and I always felt guilty when I couldn't make time when my friend wanted their hair done!

Anyway, there isn't anything wrong with doing your own hair - just make sure you follow these simple rules:

  • get professional haircuts - pros pay hundreds for their scissors and really take care of them. A haircut with dull scissors = split ends/frizzies
  • when colouring, stay within two shades - I would also say use demi-perminent or semi-permanent colour. It's gentler on the hair.
  • when highlighting, less is more. You can always go back and add more highlights later, so highlight thin strands and fewer than you think you need.
I would also mention that the less you wash your hair, the better. I get my hair wet and condition it if I think it needs to be refreshed before its time to wash it again, and I swear that is why I can go eleven months between haircuts. (also because I get AWESOME haircuts that grow out really well!)

a gray day

DSC_0133

I'm not sure why, but even though the weather was actually nice, I decided to wear all gray.

Spring break definitely spoiled me! Not that I had the week off from work or anything, I just took time off from my second job at the pool since swim team and group lessons were already cancelled. It was so nice to just go to one job for a week! I even got to meet up with Amanda and Kristy for lunch the day that I wore this. But now it's back to working multiple jobs and 15 hour Tuesdays!

once a year

DSC_0111

So here it is, my new haircut! It's just a styled version of how my hair was, but the big difference is how WONDERFUL it feels! Vanessa did an amazing job!! It's long and styled - WIN, WIN!! The best part is I feel like I can wear it straight again (coming in a few days) without it just hanging there.

I am so happy!

more of the same

DSC_0104

I was really lazy with my outfit inspiration last week. I rocked the laundry basket remix like a champion. In fact, I wore this sweater twice too, I just didn't get a chance to photograph the outfit. This week is more of the same, considering I have worn a variation of jeans and a white tee two days in a row. Go with what works, right?

I also got my hair cut! I realized that I desperately needed it when I noticed how ratty the end of my braid looked in my last post! I can not tell you how amazing it feels to have an actual hair style again. My amazing stylist, Vanessa (owner of Maude) worked wonders. I'll post the pictures later on this weekend.
