I just have long legs

...is what I say when people think my shorts are too short! I mean, it's true...

Anyway, today starts the Second Annual Memorial Day Weekend Staycation, also known as "The Staycation Strikes Back"! I am so excited! Basically my friends and I just go to the pool and pretend that we are on vacation without actually having to drive anywhere. It's pretty exciting! Though sometimes I have to convince people that it is actually as cool as I say it is. I mean, going on vacation in your own town? It does kinda sound lame when you say it like that. But when you add an exclamation point and say "We're going on STAYCATION in beautiful Reston, Virginia. Where there are 2 golf courses, 38 tennis courts, 15 pools, over 55 miles of walking trails, a quaint farmers market, 4 beautiful lakes for boating, and a busy town center." Well, it sounds a lot better! :)

welcome, Elise!

My friend, Becca, had her baby girl this morning! She named her Elise Victoria, and though I have yet to see a picture, I am sure that she is just beautiful!! I mean her parents are pretty good looking themselves, so together, they're gonna make one of those families that comes in the picture frame when you buy it. :) Speaking of pictures, when things settle down, I get to take some shots of their new little one and their happy little family!

Speaking of families... my friend Lee got engaged to his long time girlfriend, Liz as well! It has been a day of good news. It certainly overshadows talking about my multi-coloured, wellie-booted outfit!

HACC banquet

For the end of the swim season, we had a super fun banquet with all the age groups! I only wish more of my swimmers had come! We gave out awards, had some yummy California Tortilla, and had a super fun time dancing.

I hope we can do more whole group activities like that next year. I think the younger kids really like hanging out with the older kids, and vice versa!

a bit dramatic

I don't know why, but I love taking pictures in the middle of the road! There is just something cool about being still while there are cars going by you. And with the capital in the back ground, I just couldn't NOT go out to this median and take pictures while I was in DC for the Bike to Work Day meeting!

Speaking of, Bike to Work day is tomorrow! May is bike month (and also Celiac awareness month, lupus month, national aquatics month, and I am sure there are others), this week is bike to work week, and Friday is Bike to Work day! I have actually been a pretty poor example when it comes to biking to work this year. Between coaching before work and teaching after work, I have been worried that there won't be enough time for me to get from here to there to everywhere!

But tomorrow I am definitely biking! How about you!?

ikea via craigslist

I had this big plan to re-do my whole house with new furniture, new paint, and some accent pillows made from Caitlin Wilson Textiles fabric. But when you're a big dreamer, your plans and reality sometimes have a hard time coming together! As I was planning this home makeover, I knew my car needed some service, but I hadn't really prepared for just how much. And, I knew it would cost some money and time to re-do my living room, but I didn't really think about that either. Finally, I knew I would actually have to spend money to buy new furniture, but I wasn't really ready to part with my hard earned (and saved) cash!

The conflicts of my dream world and reality! :)

But, my mom and I did go to Ikea. We shopped and looked around, sat on couches, furnished my dream house (on a budget), and left with zero purchases! The next week I decided to see if I could find the couch I wanted on craigslist, and after a week of searching, not 5 minutes from my home, some one was selling the couch I wanted with two different covers, both in colours I wanted for 1/3 of what it would cost new. So maybe it pays off to dream and be realistic at the same time! ;)

look back: May 2011

I know when I go to do a look back next year I am going to think "wow, I was such a slacker in 2012!"

This second year of blogging has been so different from the first! I'm hoping this look back inspires me to find some of those cute pieces, get the out of the closet, and on to this blog in 2012.

long time no blog

Remember me? I used to blog 4-5 days a week, then it was 3, and recently it's been 0... No excuses, I have just let my blog take a back seat to everything else in my life. Priorities change as we get old. Oh yeah, I had a birthday! I'm 30 now. It's pretty crazy to be a whole three decades now! I had to renew my drivers license and everything!

These pictures are from Foxfields. As cute as I felt, I'm actually not a fan of the pictures... But I felt super cute! So I guess that is all that matters! :)

As May rolls on, I have bike to work day this week, my final two weeks of swim team for the season, and it all wraps up with "The Staycation Strikes Back!" (Last years Staycation here and here)
