fit style: Cherry Blossom 10 Miler

Rowan and I are showing off our finisher medals from the Cherry Blossom Race on April 7th, 2013. I ran the 10 miler, while Rowan did his longest race ever, the kids 1/2 mile! The first thing he told me when I met up with them was that he even beat some 12 year olds! He was so proud of himself. My sister even said she was willing to bring him to kids races at all the big races that I do. Thus far, he has pretty much stuck to races at Reston Town Center.

I had been out the night before until about midnight. While Reid and I were at the party, everyone was amazed that I was going to get up early and run a race the next day. Poor Reid though! He kept getting asked if he was going to get up to cheer me on. It would be one thing if I ran one or two races a year, then I might ask him to come out, but I do one to two races a month! It would get a little ridiculous if I asked him to come cheer me on at all of them!

So after about 4 1/2 hours of sleep I heard my roommate (who came in 14th, by the way!) leave and I figured I better get moving. At 5:15am I decided I would drive in to the city instead of taking the metro. It's always a risk, but for this race, it totally paid off!

I was early enough to get a primo parking space right between the White House and the Washington Monument on Constitution Ave. It also gave me a wind free place to wait for the start. I texted with my cousin in Europe for a bit, then headed over to the start around 7:00.

I was cold in the beginning of the race, and my hands never warmed up, but I think overall I was really well dressed for the weather. I ended up running a 1:23:26, a second best time for me. It's an average pace of 8:21/mile, but I know from my spits that I was all over the place! I had a couple of 8:05s at the beginning and mile 3 was under 8 minutes! Then I had a couple of 8:40s in there too. I just hope that I can keep a pace like that for the Nike Women's 1/2 on 4/28! It runs along the same course, so this run was a good practice for that one! :)
