mini tri with my swimmers!

Me and Hannah after our mini-triathlon

In prep for my first triathlon (with team in training!), I have been going to open water swims at National Harbor (with Wave One), biking with my team (okay, so I have only been a hand full of times!), and running with Penny.

But when I heard that some of my little swimmers were doing the Herndon Kids Triathlon in September, I had to do a mini-tri with them to practice! We did a little swimming warm up, followed by a little biking warm up, then we did a mini tri right at Ridge Height Pool. We set up our transition area at the bike rack outside the pool. Hannah, Alana, and Alec were pros at setting up, because they had practiced transitions in the driveway the previous weekend. Their parents hosed them off, then had them practice gearing up for their bike soaking wet. Such a cool idea!

Anyway, then we jumped in the swim lanes. The girls each did a 100m swim, while Alec did a 50, then the girls did a 1.4 mile bike (Alec did 0.95 miles), and then a 0.95 mile run! I can't believe how well these kiddos did! I don't think I could have done it at their ages. I was super impressed.

It also gave me a chance to practice my transitions (since I don't have anyone to hose me off in the driveway!) and in my tri suit (which I still don't really like because it feels weird... tight in all the wrong places and slightly unflattering - though these pics are pretty cute!).

So as I gear up for my first official triathlon, I'm glad that my first (mini or otherwise) tri was with the awesome Riso kids!
