running in NOLA

I love running when I'm on vacation because it seems like I have more time to actually get a good run in. The problem is, I also tend to procrastinate about starting my runs when I'm on vacation and not in the time constraints of my busy, daily life!

I was hoping to get out for a run at least 3 times while in New Orleans, but for some reason, the mornings slipped away from me and I only managed to get two, back-to-back runs in. I'll consider that a vacation success though, since we covered SO MANY miles on foot each day. I was hitting my fuelband goal by midday with no problems, even on days I didn't run!

I went on my first run solo, and didn't quite have my barring of where I was. I knew the house we were staying in, the Starbucks 1/2 a mile away (of course!), how to get to Eric and Adrienne's from the Starbucks, and where the Fresh Market was from the house. I decided to leave the house and turn left, heading toward the Starbucks. I stayed on Prytania until it pretty much ended and I realized I had been running toward the business district. I even passed the Green Fork, a gluten free bakery we had planned to check out, but didn't get a chance to. Then I ran back to the Starbucks road (Washington) and ran up and down Camp to get my mileage to 3 before going to Starbucks to walk home with my coffee.

Reid came with me on my second run, and since I had a better grasp of where Audubon Park was, we decided to head there, do a park loop, and come back. On the way there, we dogged parade campsites on St. Charles, running down the the middle of the street car tracks. It was a really beautiful run and mirrored part of our race from the year before. I really love running with Reid, and we haven't done much running together (except for the 5k I forced him into on 4th of July) since training for the 1/2 last year, so this vacation run was very special for me! I have my fingers crossed that Reid will be up for joining me for more runs as we get into spring!
