Fairfax Four Miler - 2015

So here we are, another year, and another year of running, in the books! It's a lot to think about actually, so I'm gonna start with the race and go from there.

First, Amanda actually signed up for a pacers race that got cancelled earlier this year. To make it up to her, they gave her two free entries, so I actually got to run the Fairfax Four Miler for free! It's always fun to get to run a race for free!! So she and I signed up for it, but she actually wasn't sure she was going to be able to run with the rest of her New Year's Eve plans up in the air. Luckily everything worked out.

And talk about luck, everyone at my office was leaving at 3pm on NYE, so I asked if we could close early, saying that I would take PTO for my last two hours, and my boss said YES! It was so nice to get some extra time to get ready for the race (and rearrange all the furniture in my upstairs, but that is another post).

Amanda went the day before and picked up our numbers. Pacers assigns numbers when you pick up, so that's why our numbers are sequential, and it turn, I picked up our numbers for the New Year's Day 5k. I picked up Amanda at 5 to head to down town Fairfax for the race. I guess its been a while since I've been there (a year, in fact!), but I was amazed by the cute little courtyard that they have next to the town hall now! They had the splash pad fountain on and Pacers had a photographer doing a photobooth in front of it! I was hoping that they would have the photos up, but they only had a sneak peek, luckily though, one of the thirteen photos they choose was of me!

After Manda and I did the photobooth we were just waiting around, enjoying the DJ, when the Cupid Shuffle came on!! I was kinda dancing by myself, bobbing around in one place when Manda and I just started doing the whole dance. About one round in and we had 2 more people dancing with us. By the end of the song, there were at least 20 people dancing! It was so much fun, and a great way to warm up for the run!

Then, just as we were going to line up, Manda spotted Dale! We said quick hellos to her and lined up for the race. I knew that I wanted to push the 5k the next day, so I decided to run with Amanda. We agreed on doing 90:30 second intervals and "taking it easy"... Well... sort of!

Amanda has been practicing pacing and taking splits with her watch, but we didn't see any mile markers on the course until mile 3! I think we were both looking for white "A-frames" like PR uses, but Pacers has switched to the flags. Theirs happen to be dark blue, and at night, they were not very noticeable at ALL! Looking at my Nike today, we split 9:35, 7:59, 9:03, 9:08. Our final mile we did 60:25 second intervals and I picked it up a little when I saw the finish, hoping Amanda would follow. But then a guy I ran up on picked it up a little, and I can't hold my self back from a challenge... so I took off! I finished in 35:09 and Amanda came in behind me at 35:20, a 1:23 PR for her! It was a great way for her to end a year of PRs! According to Athlinks she PRed EVERY DISTANCE this year!

The only one that I am not totally sure about for Manda is her 10k. I know that she ran a couple before 2011, but I can't seem to find any results online. Also, technically, she PRed the 10k TWICE in 2015, I just listed the faster of the two times. Since we're both doing the GW Parkway 10 Miler this year, I suggested she go after a 10 mile PR this year!

So that was the Fairfax 4 Miler. It was a quick little race, and a great way to end the year! I'm so glad that I have done it every year since 2010. You can read about the past years here: 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014
