Winter White

I may have gone a bit overboard with the pictures of this outfit... but I just loved it so much!! I went over to my mom's house on Monday after work and she surprised me with this skirt (well... she wanted to remake it into something else, but I snagged it before she could!). I knew that I didn't want to save it for warmer weather and that I wanted to wear it with black tights and my wedges... the rest sort of came together while I was getting dressed that morning.

I just love the play on business and fairy tale in this ensemble. As well as the look of those shoes with the dark tights! I also took some time to digitally cross process the pictures to give them a pseudo-editorial look.

'twas the day before Christmas

On Christmas Eve I slept in (let me tell you, that was so nice!) and then headed out for some Starbucks and some very last minute shopping! This is kind of a 'phone it in' outfit compared to the one I wore the day before. But at least my hair and makeup was nicer!
I just love the way purple and green go together... They just seem to compliment each other so well.

When and Where:
  • Friday, December 24th, 2010
  • Last minute Christmas shopping, watching Stoned with my dad, and Christmas Eve cheese fondue dinner with my family
What I'm Wearing:
  • green top, black tank - Target
  • scarf, jeans - Gap
  • boots - Kohl's
There is something strange about these pictures though... I think I resemble Miley Cyrus just a bit in them. Especially this one:

No? How about with dark hair?

Okay, maybe not... Though, I do think that I look nice with dark hair. That might be something to think about ;)

the eve before Christmas Eve

I'm back! I did a horrible job keeping up with writing posts over my Christmas 4 day weekend. I did an even worse job of remember to take pictures on Christmas and over the weekend... but oh well!
This outfit came together all because of a friend I have (DC from Missed Match) and her amazing layering style. She can layer clothes better than anyone I know! Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery - this outfit has "Hey DC, I'm trying to copy your style!" all over it! In fact, I know she'd love these tights!

When and Where:
  • Thursday, December 23, 2010
  • To pick up my car from the shop, out shopping with my mom, and finishing my Christmas shopping!
What I'm wearing:
  • coat - Express 2008
  • dress - Target (it's a summer dress/ bathing suit cover up)
  • turtle neck - SO from Kohls
  • scarf - Gap
  • tights - Juicy Couture
  • socks - Target
  • boots - Jessica Simpson
I love the pop of bright blue with the mix of pattern on the coat and tights! It was such a comfortable outfit; and because of all the layers, I stayed nice and warm. I also know that I have this dress in black somewhere, though I may have packed it with summer clothes! Looks like I've found a way to wear my summer time dresses year round!

a complete repeat?

When I was getting dressed on Wednesday morning, I nearly repeated an entire outfit. This one:

Wednesdays just wanna have fun!

And shocker, I wore it on a Wednesday as well! I decided against repeating that outfit, mostly because I was sure I would be too cold in my office in 3/4 length sleeves, but also because I'm not entirely sure I am okay with COMPLETE repeats! Isn't the whole idea of a fashion blog to have some creativity? Creating cute looks out of common basics!?

Instead of repeating, I didn't take pictures today. I am wearing the same jeans and shoes from the above pic, plus a long sleeved thermal from primp, and my new quilted saucony running jacket. (I told you I was cold!)

This did get me thinking about how I seem to take the easy road when it comes to fashion/style. And that is - if I like an article of clothing, I usually get it in multiple colours. Here are some recent purchases I have made:

one sweater
I just loved how cozy this cardigan felt when I put it on. It's from Gap and I got it on my first trip to Gap in about 2 years. I used to have quite a long term relationship with Gap - we were steady, all things were great, but like all young love, Gap changed and we grew apart. After time had healed my broken heart (and because of some clever jeans ads) I started perusing Gap's web page for some inspiration pieces and I found this skirt:

one skirt
On the day I bought the sweaters, I was on a mission to get the black corduroy mini on the left. Since that purchase, Gap and I have been back in our serious relationship. I mean, it's definitely an open relationship, but I always check to see if I can get what I need there first!
This is one of my other multiples from this season at Gap:

one shirt
Looking at those four shots, I don't really wear that shirt very differently. Is it pretty much repeating an outfit? Is that okay?

These Boots...

are made for walking...? Not really, but they did inspire this outfit! It was one that I sort of build from the bottom up. Not as in I picked out the boots first and went from there. No, as in I found the cream sweater at the bottom of my clean laundry basket and decided to wear it! This was actually another outfit that just kept getting layered until it felt right. "Tank top here... sweater there... how about another sweater... add a scarf..." I added the boots because I realized from doing this blog that even though I am 5'8" in real life, I look kinda short standing alone in pictures! Expect more heels!!

Seriously, sometimes I don't know what is going through my head when I am posing:

Seahawk Spirit

Blue and green in combination seem to haunt me. They were my high school colours, and for some reason I always seem to put them together (it could be that in addition to the 4 years there as a student, I have now coached there for 6 years).

Cozy Friday

The snow stopped sometime on Thursday night, and the world was a cold, white, winter wonderland on Friday. Schools started 2 hours late, but our swim and dive meet was still on that evening! I got dressed thinking that warm layers might be the only way that I could make it through the day. This was certainly a day where I just kept layers until I was a)warm enough, b)felt I looked okay, c)and maybe also felt like I was wearing a blanket!

I pinned the scarf and sweater together in the center to achieve this look. It really felt as if I had a nice warm blanket with me on this cold, cold day!

Thursday, Snowday!

On Thursday we had our first snow of the 2010-2011 winter, 2 whole inches! The night before, Jenny and I went to the Reston Town Center to do a photo project - due to the crazy coldness, it lasted all of 20 minutes! But she did give me my Christmas present - the great sweater I wore on Thursday!
